DMCC Member Memory Cafes will receive training free of charge. Non-Member Memory Cafes may also attend a training course for a specified fee. These courses will take place at venues across Devon. To book on to these courses, please see the link below.
The training programme has been put together with the aim of supporting Memory Cafes with the practicalities of running a safe and successful Memory Cafe.
DMCC has organised two levels of training:
Level 1 Training
A series of one-day courses for Member Memory Cafés. These courses will take your nominated ‘lead’ volunteer to an accredited qualification in the subjects of:
- First Aid
- Food Hygiene
- Health and Safety, including an element about Risk Assessment which, we have been advised, is now a legal requirement.
Level 2 Training
A series of half-day ‘Enhanced Awareness Training Courses’. These will train a further volunteer from each Member Memory Café in the subjects of:
- Food Safety
- Health and Safety (to include an element about risk assessment).
It is intended that the volunteers who take these ‘Enhanced Awareness courses act as support or back up to those trained to Level 1.
In addition, we will also be running the popular DMCC Dementia Awareness course. This is a full day’s training specifically designed for Memory Cafes and will cover: Identifying signs, types and behavioural aspects of dementia; how to support people and develop more positive care for people with dementia; involvement in opportunities and decisions affecting their lives.
